What is the ISO 2026 transition?

ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 were both revised in 2026. Organisations certified to the 2015 versions need to update their management system and complete a transition audit with their certification body. CCIS helps Singapore organisations find what has changed, update only what needs updating, and get ready for that audit.

What changed in ISO 9001:2026

The structure and most requirements stay the same. The main changes are:

  • Quality culture and ethical behaviour: top management must promote both, and people must be aware of them
  • Risks and opportunities: now set out separately, so actions for each are clearer
  • Planning of changes: stronger requirements for managing changes to the quality management system
  • Climate change: the 2024 amendment is now part of the standard, so climate change is considered as part of your context
  • Continual improvement: requirements brought together in one clause

What changed in ISO 14001:2026

The core structure and the Plan-Do-Check-Act approach stay. The main changes are:

  • Environmental conditions: clearer attention to climate change, biodiversity, pollution and natural resources
  • Planning of changes: a new requirement to plan and control changes that affect the environmental management system
  • Life cycle perspective: environmental aspects considered from raw materials through to end of life
  • External providers: controls extended to externally provided processes, products and services
  • Internal audits: each audit needs defined objectives as well as scope and criteria

How CCIS helps you convert to the 2026 versions

  1. Gap analysisWe compare your current system with ISO 9001:2026, ISO 14001:2026 or both
  2. Document updatesWe update the system based on the latest requirements
  3. AwarenessWe brief your managers and staff on what has changed and what it means for them
  4. Internal audit and management reviewCCIS conducts the internal audit against the 2026 version and guides your management review
  5. Transition audit supportWe support you through your certification body’s transition audit

Holding both certificates? The two standards share the same structure, so CCIS can transition an integrated ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 system in one project.

  • “Write what you do, do what you write” – a system your team can understand and maintain
  • Changes kept to what the 2026 versions actually require, so you do not rebuild a working system
  • Integrated management systems since the 1990s – featured in the national newspaper in 1998 for a first-of-its-kind certified IMS in the region

ISO 2026 transition questions

Do certified organisations have to transition to ISO 9001:2026 and ISO 14001:2026?

Yes. Certificates to the 2015 versions are valid only for a set transition period. Before it ends, your certification body must audit your system against the 2026 version. Your certification body can confirm the timing for your certificate.

Is transition the same as conversion?

Yes. Both words describe moving a certified management system from the 2015 version of a standard to the 2026 version.

Do we need to rewrite our whole management system?

No. Most requirements are unchanged. A gap analysis shows which parts need updating, so a well-run system usually needs targeted changes rather than a rewrite.

Is the transition audit a full recertification?

Not necessarily. Certification bodies often combine the transition with a surveillance or recertification audit. Ask your certification body how it plans your transition audit.

Does CCIS issue the new certificate?

No. CCIS prepares your organisation for the transition. Your certificate is updated by your independent, accredited certification body after its audit.
